In recent times, Italy has regressed into a country where fascism and its subcultural by-products are glorified.
Many express indignation. Some call racists stupid.
I believe that calling anyone stupid is useless and creates factions. If someone is stupid, why shouldn't he identify himself with the group of stupid people and gloat about it? What's the problem? Nowadays the "class" of intellectuals is no longer respected as in times past. Being stupid isn't scary anymore.
The misery of a life lived stupidly is a private matter, unlike those who suffer the consequences of it.
Instead, I propose taking sides not with this or that group, but with the only force capable of keeping racist tendencies at bay—which, in all of us, sometimes arise out of laziness: that force is thought.
Tolman, in his conclusions on his discoveries about mental maps, tells us that those who use “narrow maps” are more prone to directing aggression toward outsiders. And ultimately, he shows us a path toward a more pleasant life.
